1. DO tell your guests, as far in advance as possible, that you have hired a
hypnotist for your entertainment. People should expect a hypnotist and think about
taking part ahead of time. This will be conducive both to obtaining volunteers and
sufficiently hypnotizing them.
2. Tell your guests that it will be an AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION
EVENT and feel free to RECRUIT VOLUNTEERS.
3. Please assure your guests that:
- No one will be ridiculed or humiliated.
- Nobody will made to reveal personal secrets or experience pain.
- The trance state is safe, fun, and feels good.
- The experience of hypnosis may expand your mental abilities.
- They will still see most of the show even if they are in the show: each of the hypnotic demonstrations will be performed
by a different volunteer or set of volunteers.
- Never "threaten" anyone with hypnosis, or coerce or order them to participate in the show. This gives an extremely false
impression of what hypnosis is, and is counterproductive to a good performance.
4. MOST IMPORTANT! I ask that the host, or M.C., or a volunteer presenter, be willing
to meet me ahead of showtime and learn how to become hypnotized. At the start of
the show that person will go back into hypnosis after introducing me. I will leave
that person obviously hypnotized for about four minutes during my opening presentation.
(NOTE: this should be arranged confidentially, for maximum audience surprise.) This
is a great crowd-pleaser, and will help the other volunteers go into hypnosis later.
It also helps if this person is someone well-known to or respected by the guests;
he or she need not volunteer for the remainder of the show. If no such person can
be recruited I will bring a paid demonstration subject to assist.
5. Please provide a "stage" area consisting of 8 - 12 chairs for volunteers and
equipment, within good sight of the audience. Please inform me if the performance
venue has its own sound system, or if sound amplification is needed.
